Symptoms of RMSF often include a high fever, a non-itchy rash, and muscle pain. Avoiding ticks and removing them quickly from your body can lower your risk of contracting RMSF. Between the first and sixth day of fever, most patients with RMSF develop a rash on the wrists, ankles, palms, soles, and forearms that rapidly extends to the neck, face, axillae, buttocks, and trunk. Initially macular and pink, it becomes maculopapular and darker. RMSF also causes a rash with small red spots on the wrists, palms, ankles, and soles of the feet.
